Get Arspec.

The same editor on every platform. Run it in your browser with nothing to install, or download a desktop build that saves changes straight back to the file.

Nothing to install

The browser version is the complete editor. A web page cannot write to your disk, so there you open a copy and save by downloading one — everything else is the same app.

Run in your browser

Desktop

Download and install.

Desktop builds write changes back to the file as you make them, and can talk to your own AI chat.

What changed in each version →

Windows

Download for Windows No build published yet.

  1. Unzip the download anywhere you like — your user folder or C:\Program Files both work. It unpacks to one folder; keep that folder together, because arspec.exe needs the files beside it.
  2. Open the folder and run arspec.exe.
  3. Windows will show Windows protected your PC. Choose More info, then Run anyway.

Why the warning? The build is not yet signed with a Microsoft-trusted certificate, so SmartScreen has no publisher to show you. It goes away once Arspec is in the Microsoft Store. Until then, check the download is the one we published:

Get-FileHash .\arspec-windows.zip -Algorithm SHA256

and compare it with the checksum above.

A Microsoft Store listing is on the way; this manual download will stay either way.

macOS

Download for macOS No build published yet.

  1. Open the downloaded disk image and drag Arspec into Applications.
  2. Open it once: macOS will say it cannot check the app and stop there.
  3. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to the line about Arspec, and choose Open Anyway. On macOS 14 and earlier, a right-click on the app and Open does the same without the trip to Settings.

Why the extra step? The build is not yet notarised by Apple, and Gatekeeper refuses anything it has not seen notarised — Open Anyway is how you tell macOS you meant it. You only do this once. If it still refuses, clear the quarantine flag:

xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Arspec.app

And to check the download is ours:

shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/arspec-macos.dmg

An App Store listing is on the way; this manual download will stay either way.

Linux

Download for Linux No build published yet.

  1. Make it executable: chmod +x arspec.AppImage
  2. Run it: ./arspec.AppImage

An AppImage needs no installation and no root. It mounts itself with FUSE, which a desktop distribution has. Where it says it cannot find fusermount, either install fuse3 or run the image with --appimage-extract-and-run. To check the download:

sha256sum arspec.AppImage

Built for x86-64, on Ubuntu 22.04: it runs there and on what came after — Debian 12, Fedora, current Ubuntu — and not on anything older. If you need another architecture, say so on GitHub.

Mobile

Phones and tablets.

The same editor, laid out for a smaller screen.
